  • Night of Rinas (Period #3)

“Who…are…you?” The creature glared at Rinas.

    “I am…called Fear…”

“This…is bad.” thought Rinas. “Courage’s nemesis…of all people to be in my mind…oh crap, he could be reading my mind for all I know!”

“What are you staring at?” Yelled Fear.

“N…nothing! J-just curious…can you read my mind?” Fear spat on Rinas’s floor.

“Like I’d want to read anything from human scum. Now, start talking!” He instinctively forced Rinas out of the closet then forced Rinas to choke himself. “Where am I? What am I—” A sharp pain arose in Fear. He stopped controlling Rinas. “…Why? Why do I have to feel this type of pain…fine…human boy! Start talking!”

“Y-yes! You see, I opened a book this afternoon, you see…it was called “The World of Bethumet”…it didn’t seem all spectacular…but then something happened when I opened it…but before I knew it I was knocked out! When…when I came to the book disappeared!” Then, thinking that it wouldn’t be rise to bring up Courage’s name, he lied, “Nothing seemed to happen at the time…but it seems you appeared right now, so something definitely happened.” Fear stared at him, arms crossed.

“I see…well…my plan is currently ruined…” He leaned against a wall. “I guess that means I’ll just go to sleep…” Rinas had a questionable look to his face.

“This is probably not a good time to be doing that!”

    “And why is that?”

    “We…well I…I mean…I don’t know you—”

“And I don’t know you. I’d prefer to keep it that way. Now, if you excuse me—” Fear seemed to sense something. “Follow me.” Rinas was forced to get up, jump out of his window, and fly in the air.

    “WAAAAAA!!!”

    “Stop yelling!”

    “W-where are you taking me???”

“That’s for me to know and you to find out!” They flew all the way uptown, all the way to the Bronx. “Now, look at this gathering…” Rinas looked down to see a whole group of men dressed sharply and looked like a fight was about to begin. “They aren’t so tough. Might as well have some fun.”

“Are you crazy?!? That’s too many!” Rinas tried to turn around.

“Look…you’re in my way enough as it is! Let me have my fun!” A dark energy emanated from Rinas’s body. Without realizing it, he found himself in the middle of the all out brawl. Amidst the shock of the men, energy spewed out of Rinas. “Hello…and goodbye!” Rinas ran right through at least 60 men in ten seconds, knocking them all unconscious. Fear laughed in happiness. “It seems my power is still the same as normal. All right then…time t…” He started to breathe heavily. “W…what the?” He looked at Rinas who was about to faint. “Damn it…he’s done already?” The men in the area, already in disbelief, ran away from Rinas. “Heh…I guess…I can…sider…te…” Both Rinas and Fear fainted.

    *****

It was around 5 am when Rinas came to. The first thing he smelled was blood.

“W…what’s…” Then he remembered. “Fear…Fear?” No response. “That…ow…” He grabbed his head. It was throbbing in pain. “I…I can’t stay like this…” He wobbly got to his feet, looking around at all the unconscious bodies on the ground. He threw up. He slowly walked out of the area. While grabbing walls and sometimes stumbling, he thought Fear was about as evil as Courage said he was. With him in his body, he wasn’t going to live much longer if he continued to allow this happen. “But…what can I do?” he thought as he made it to the sidewalk. The sun shone in his face. When he put his hand to hide from it, a mysterious voice echoed,

“Found you…” Rinas never looked in the direction of the voice, falling asleep instantly…

    *****

Great screams pounded throughout Rinas’s ears. He arose in a state of terror.

“W…where am I?” He looked to be in some despairingly wide chamber, where he was lying in a bed in the middle of the room, and at least 300 miles before a door could be seen. He slowly got out of the bed, but staggered immediately as he was overwhelmed at the sheer size of his surroundings.

“So, you are awake?” Rinas jumped at the sight of a brown looking anomaly wearing a similar type of clothing to Fear except he wore a purple cape on his broad shoulders. He spoke in a controlled manner. “Do not be alarmed. I am not here to harm you.”

    “W…who are you?”

“…My name is Genesis…” he raised his left claw. Immediately a group of human maids walked in from out of nowhere to Rinas and provided a nice feast, a pair of clean clothes, and fixed the bed. While this happened, Genesis continued, “This chamber…that looks distorted…is a testament to your strength. You aren’t particularly powerful. I had to…erect a few barriers to keep you from dying.

“Now, I bet you’re curious as to what’s going on. You see…” that mysteriously shaped box that Rinas originally found was in Genesis’s right claw, “You accidently opened this. There was something wrong with the book, which was why it was sealed in the first place. I made the mistake of having left it in your house…I thought no one lived in it. It seemed to be a good hiding spot. However, I failed to notice you and now…you have two ancient spirits stuck inside you.” Rinas had a look of confusion on his face.

“Wait…so you mean the book I found…what kind of problem did it have?”

“The powers kept growing to such a level…I felt that in order to make sure no one gets hurt, it had to be sealed.” Rinas hardly believed it, but acted satisfied with it and asked something different,

“Ok…so you mean Courage and Fear…” he gasped. “Hey…I can’t sense them! What happened to them?”

“We are extracting them from your mind. Don’t worry. This won’t take lon—” A loud, painful scream was heard from somewhere in the chamber.

    “W…what was…” Genesis sighed.

“…I didn’t say extracting them was going to be painless…”

“Where are they? Take me to them?”

“…Want to say your goodbye? Fine.” Genesis grabbed Rinas and teleported him to a different part of the chamber. Rinas then saw Courage and Fear in some sort of barrier, getting their energy sucked right out of them. They were both bleeding profusely. Courage gasped when she saw Rinas.

“Rinas! I’m so sorry! I’m so sorry!” Rinas looked at Genesis.

“This is the extraction process? No, stop it!”

“Sorry…but out of the three options, this will not affect you in any way. Once this is finished, you will return to your normal form unharmed.”

“But you’re harming them! It’s not right!”

“Rinas…these are fictional characters. They live in a book. You should not be concer—”

“But they are real! They are still with me as I speak! I can feel their pain!” Fear just spat.

“Sorry, kid, but I’d rather go back without your help.” Courage glared at him.

“You bastard! If it wasn’t for your selfishness, then Rinas wouldn’t be in this position!” Fear laughed, but soon howled in pain as being taken from him.

“You actually want to deal with this trash?” Remarked Genesis.

“Actually, that’s one spirit I probably want to do without,” responded Rinas, “But if I continue to let this happen, Courage will be gone. Please,” Rinas got on his knees and begged, “What are your other options?” Genesis walked around slowly, thinking about it.

“Fine…I’ll tell you one of the options.” He walked towards the barrier. While walking he continued, “If you want to go back unharmed…then you’ll have to find me the three statues of Bethumet.” An audible gasp emerged from Courage and Fear.

“They’re here, too?!?” They both said simultaneously.

“Yes…I wanted to get you both sent back first, then the statues. But we seem to have a willing young man who has no problem wasting his time for your sake.”

“I don’t agree to this!” yelled Fear. “Just send us back now!” Genesis shut the barrier down. “Son of a—” Fear disappeared.

“It’s 11 A.M. Fear won’t be appearing until nighttime.” said Genesis. Rinas felt a weakened spirit return to his body.

“You feel sort of heavy,” he smiled, “You all right, Courage?” Courage smiled.

    “Maybe…with some rest…I’ll be better.”

“Forget it,” said Genesis. He tossed Rinas a bottle. “Drink it. You won’t be able to taste anything young one, but the spirits will. Courage will be all right.” Rinas drank the bottle. “Now…” A map appeared in Genesis’s claws. “The three statues of Bethumet are thankfully not located anywhere other than New York. The only problem will be the statues. Chances are they are in the wrong hands or they are in a location where it’s easy to take control of it. In your current physical capacity, your chances aren’t very good of retrieving them all safely. You still wish to continue?” Rinas nodded. “All right…I like your determination. I will imprint the locations of the statues in your head.” Genesis put his left claw on top of Rinas’s head. Rinas felt like he was crushed for a second as he stumbled to the ground. “There…you know the location of the orb. Now go…and find the statues!”

Rinas has some feeling on courage, despite that is definitely not love. Looks like he is in trouble now. I'll wait for your next chapter.
