School Fear (Period #2)
“You hardly have any backbone, do you?” asked Courage. “Wha…what did you do?” questioned Rinas in a sweat.
“I didn’t do anything. Personally I think it was my instinct that did anything.”
“Are you saying that I have your powers?”
“The results speak for themselves!” She pointed at a brick, “Maybe you should try and break that—”
“Are you nuts!?! I’ll break my bones, not that!”
“Have no fear, Rinas! You don’t even have to punch it with a lot of force. In fact, you don’t have to punch it at all. Just pick it up and press on it with your finger!” Rinas did what she said. With one finger, he crushed the brick.
“No way! You have super strength?!”
“Yes! I also have other powers as well. Say, “Agni!”
“Agni?”
“While saying it, concentrate it on something…like your hand. Open your hand up and look at it for five seconds.”
“Then say Agni?” She nodded. Rinas again did what she said. A small fire developed from his hand. “Unreal…am I dreaming?”
“If you are, it’s a very good dream! My powers have carried over to your world after all! As long as I’m around, you’re going to be a man of honor!”
“…I am?” Rinas said meekly.
“You have no choice!”
“But…I’m not much for fighting.”
“Oh, I know that. That’s why I will train you!”
“…I’d rather not—”
“YOU WILL TRAIN OR ELSE!!!” Rinas felt like he was standing right next to an audio speaker turned up really loud. “Look Rinas I know you’re not much of a fighter but I am. I have to train everyday. I can’t do it in this position, and just being in this position will only delay me from stopping Fear.”
“Fear?” That didn’t sound like a friendly name.
“He…is the evil that stains my Bethumet…a creature that doesn’t know when to stop. He’s selfish, only doing things to please himself. I don’t know where he is now…for all I know he could be destroying my world. I can only hope that my world is safe.”
“I see. Well…I guess…” He started stretching, “I can help you. I’ll do what I can, how’s that?” Courage smiled.
“Thank you Rinas. I am in your debt.” The two then walked home.
*****
“So…this is an NDS?” Remarked Courage as she stared and held a slick handheld. “It’s rather compact…”
“So you can touch my stuff yet you can’t touch me. How rich…” Rinas turned on the TV. Immediately a news bulletin popped up: bank robbery on 37th and Lexington.
“We must catch them!”
“But…how? Besides you haven’t taught me anything.”
“You underestimate my powers once again Rinas Daimon! Can’t you sense energy?” Rinas gave her a quizzical look. “Ok fine, just ignore this injustice!”
“Didn’t I just say you haven’t taught me anything? How do you sense energy? At least help me out here!”
“Fine. Concentrate on where the robbery took place. You’ll find a trail of negative energy going somewhere.” He closed his eyes then thought of the robbery. He saw the link then ran out of the room. He took the 2 train to thirty-four street, walked out of the station, walked all the way to riverside, and looked at a four story building.
“The robbers are inside,” thought Rinas, “What’s our plan?”
“That’s easy—we bust in and make them pay for stealing!”
“Don’t be silly! I’m pretty sure that they are heavily armed—”
“So are we, Rinas!” Rinas sighed.
“Look, you have the brain of a long ago age. I have the brain of the now age, and if we don’t go in with a plan, I’m dead!” Courage scoffed.
“You are such a chicken! Bwak! You underestimate me again!!!” Rinas “instinctively” broke a nearby tree, which caused Rinas to run away so he wouldn’t get caught. Luckily for him, there weren’t a lot of people who saw him knock it down.
“Fine, I’ll walk in and hope I don’t get shot. Might as well go in blindfolded! But before I do…” He looked around. “I need a disguise.”
“A what?” Rinas took a black garbage bag, put it on, then punched some holes in it while saying,
“I need something that will make sure that they never see my face. I’d like to attempt to live normally if possible.”
“Do all humans in your world hide behind their curtains? Fame isn’t going to hurt you! It can only help!”
“Again, your version of fame is a lot different from my version of fame. I’ll explain it to you later. But trust me it’s not going to be all roses.”
“Oh, fine! Do whatever you want!” Rinas sighed. He walked into the building and up a few flights of stairs. When he arrived at the floor he turned to his left and walked all the way to the end of the floor. He then kicked the door open.
“All right! Time for you all to put your…” Rinas slowly became miserable because he stared at 26 tough looking, guns holding men. “…hands…back…where…you were! GOOD-BYE!”
“RINAS!!!” Screamed Courage.
“I’m totally screwed,” thought Rinas, “Why did I listen to you?!” The men aimed their guns at Rinas. “OH, CRAP!!!” Bullets flew, going all over the place, with Rinas dodging every bullet while screaming for help. Clicks were heard from the guns, but no bullets.
“Now, finish them!!!” Instinctively, Rinas knocked out every single man in the room, dodging their attacks, whether it was a swipe from a crow bar, a dousing of salt and pepper, or any other strike. Rinas didn’t get a single scratch on him.
“Wow…I actually did it…” said a gassed Rinas.
“I’m so proud of you! You gave these crooks what they deserved! Now let’s return the cash—RINAS!!!”
“What?” Rinas was rummaging through the bags, and had a few in his hand. “Hey, I’m pretty broke right now! The bank won’t know that I took a fe—”
“PUT. IT. BACK.” Rats, foiled again thought Rinas as he abided. He called 911, left the building, threw away the garbage bag, and watched from afar as the police swarmed the building. “I can’t believe you’re happy about letting some guys in blue who didn’t even do anything take all the credit!”
“…I can’t wait to explain my side of the story. Anyways, justice has been served!” Rinas then took the train back home.
*****
It was around 6:30 pm with the sun coming down when Rinas got home.
“I’m home!” He yelled.
“But…I don’t sense anyone here.” said Courage.
“I know, but ever since I lost my parents I feel that wherever they are they know I’m back!”
“You…lost your…parents?”
“Yeah…I’d rather not talk about it. Anyways, I guess I still have some more to teach you about this Bethumet, huh?” He first went into his room to change. Then he went into the kitchen to make dinner.
“How does it feel to live by yourself?”
“Oh…it’s not too bad. My school’s funding me, so for now I don’t have much to worry about, plus my relatives send me cash through the mail.”
“You aren’t going to live with your relatives?”
“They live in other states, so it would be a tough commute. Besides, I want to at least graduate from high school.”
“I see…erm…what’s high school?”
“You’ll find out on Monday! Now let me cook dinner!” He ended up making spaghetti with shrimp as his meat.
“…Wow…this is good! What’s this called?”
“The string like part is called spaghetti. The small little thing you see with it is called shrimp. Both are easy to make, and quick too! And since I have a guest here it’s best to make something quick.” After finishing the meal the clock struck 7:30. A yawn was heard. “Tired already?”
“I…guess…so…” She said, a bit unsure of herself. She yawned again. “Oh, this is very…rude of me…I guess…I’ll sleep…”
“Good night then!”
“Good night…Rinas…” Courage’s spirit disappeared.
“Courage,” Rinas thought. “Courage?” No answer. “I guess she’s gone…at least for now…well, it gives me time to think things over.” He walked towards the attic and tried to find that book. “Where could it have disappeared to?” He kept thinking to himself as he tossed item after item to the side. After what felt like hours of looking, he decided to call it a night looking for it. He took a shower, went into his room, and turned on his laptop. He took a piece of paper and pen and started writing what he knew so far of Courage. After writing what little he knew, he searched online for any information about the book he found. He found nothing. After searching for 30 minutes, he gave up. He turned off his laptop. It was 9:00 when he decided to go to sleep. He slipped into his pajamas, turned out his lights, and went to bed.
*****
At 11:00 a terrifying scream instantly woke up Rinas. He started to shiver and think what or where it was. It sounded as if it was in his house. He heard the sounds again and was paralyzed. What could he do? The only idea he thought of was to hide in his closet. The screaming continued, which terrified him to the point where he begged for Courage to come back from wherever she went. He felt an enormous spirit inside him. The only problem was it wasn’t Courage. This spirit was dark and cruel to the point where Rinas didn’t even want to know what it was. He slowly turned around…
…And thanked his lucky stars that a spirit was attacking him rather than an actual being because his head would have been ripped off. He stared, wide eyed, at an unknown creature who personified death itself: black spiked hair, trench coat, black pants, and four black wings. The only different color was its red eyes, and with part of its hair covering his left eye, it made its right eye look ghastly.
“Human…HUMAN!!!” It screamed terrifyingly. Rinas did not feel very comfortable at this moment.
“W…who…” Rinas couldn’t find the words.
“How…despicable,” said the creature in a low but heavy tone, “To be stuck within a human…”
“Who…are…you?” The creature glared at Rinas.
“I am…called Fear…”

What a great power. Kinda reminded me of aura tracking and sensing abilities on my first novel. I'll wait for your next period.
